Creating a Dummy

  • Like a blueprint for the printer
  • With InDesign, just print a version with halftones dropped out, replaced by squares with X through them.
    • File > Print. Click on Graphics
    • In Graphics dialogue box  > Images > Send Data, choose None.
    • Print one page for each side of the folder.
  • Dummy
    • Label each dummy for each side of the folder (Side 1; Side 2)
    • Label any bleeds
    • Indicate any image shapes not shown accurately by InDesign, such as ovals
    • Number images to key to the art package
    • Indicate ink colours used on images with an X for each colour used (see project directions).

 

 

  • Art Package
    • Photos with detailed list keyed to dummy
        1. logo 11p3 x 11p3 4CPHT round
        2. river 21 x 52p4 4CPHT 3 surprnts
        3. boaters 39 x 20p3 4CPHT 1 surprnt
        4. otter 9p6 x 13p4 4CPHT vignette

    NOTE: For disk-output, you also indicate file names,
    such as logo.gif, river.jpg, boaters.jpg, otter.gif.
    For your project, add a column for file names and list them.

  • Dummy
    • Label anything not apparent in InDesign
      • CMYK mix of Pantone colors used on four-colour side
        • Not necessary on two-colour side.


  • Dummies for folder
    • Two sheets of paper, not folded or two-sided.

  • InDesign tips
    • Use Preflight (CS2) or Package (later versions) , under File, to check for correct mode, etc.
