  2. Use of colour by the printing industry; CMYK v. RGB; ink categories; process and Pantone inks; 6-colour process.

  3. Art/graphics for print publications and Web: Formats; weight. When to use TIFFs, JPGs, PNGs and GIFs, and why; correct InDesign/Photoshop modes for Web and for print; halftone finishes.

  4. Graphics measurement terms and equivalents.

  5. Paper: What it is; how it's made; materials use to make it; writing surfaces before paper; papermaking machine; weight, terms for ordering paper; finishes; important features.

  6. Type: Recognizing groups; correct measurement expressions; readability; terminology.

  7. Folder design basics.

  8. Offset printing; web press

  9. Design Principles: definitions and applications (you'll critique a layout using applicable principles, so be sure you know how principles are applied); how optical center and visual syntax are used; Fibonacci series and spiral; white space: uses and abuses; alignment: uses, importance and weakest form.

  10. Color modes, systems and techniques used by computers; RGB v. CMYK, index colors, browser-safe colors; basic HTML codes and BROWSER SAFE hexadecimal codes.

  11. Recommended graphic resolutions in correct units (DPI v. PPI), recommended size of graphics in kilobytes and file formats for the Web, including GIFs,PNGs and JPGs.; source art formats; using GIF vs. JPG vs PNG.

  12. Anti-aliasing.

  13. Web design basics (don't make me scroll sideways); alignment: uses; importance; weakest form; use of CSS.
