Dummy
- Like a blueprint for the printer
- With
InDesign, just print a version with halftones dropped out, replaced
by squares with an X through them.
- File
> Print. Click on Graphics
- In
Graphics dialogue box Images > Send Data, choose
None.
- Print
one page for each two-page spread of the magazine (not double-sided), or
- If
it's easier with the printer you have to work with, print
one dummy for each page of the magazine.
- Dummy
- Label
each dummy for each page and indicate which signature it is
printed on.
- Label
any bleeds (as shown below).
- Indicate
any image shapes not shown accurately by InDesign, such as
ovals.
- Number
the images to key to the art package (as below; also see art
package below).
- Indicate
ink colours used on images with a line for each colour used
(as below; see project directions).

CMYK mix of Pantone colors used on four-color pages
- Not necessary on two-color pages
